Here we demonstrate the "one-minute sales tax return" with STP Texas. With STP you get signature-ready, printed sales tax forms that have been pre-approved by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. STP Forms can be filed via postal mail as an alternative to electronic filing, or in combination with electronic filing.
We start by opening a new return filing period.
Most companies file single location returns but for this demonstration our sample company has five sales locations - two outlet stores and three list locations including one county, one city, and one special purpose district jurisdiction.
For our Houston store we enter total sales and taxable sales.
Next, enter sales for the Georgetown store.
Now we'll enter taxable sales for each of our list locations.
…
Click the government view button to preview our sales tax return and supplement schedules.
Preview the sales tax return,
Click Outlet Supplement to preview the 01-115 form.
And finally preview the List Supplement 01-116 form.
All forms are cross-tabulated and have been pre-approved by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Click the input view button to go back to the sales data entry screen.
Click the penalty and interest button and enter paid date for STP to automatically prepare timely filing discount or penalty and interest.
Click the signature line button if you want to enter an alternate paid date. Tax professionals can select preparer to appear in the paid preparer section of the return.
This return is now complete and is signature ready.
Close the sales data entry screen.
Click preview and print, check off our forms and send them to the printer.
That took about one minute, but let's have a look and see how this was done. One question might be asking is how did STP know all the sales tax rates and where could we review them?
STP knows all sales tax rates for each jurisdiction by year and by quarter.
Click Company Information to see quarterly sales tax rates for our outlet locations,
and here are the rates for our list locations.
Whenever the rates change, or Texas reporting rules or tax forms change, STP automatically downloads them from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Click Audit Trail Reports to review tax rates and our sales data entered. STP provides a spreadsheet view into the calendar tax year where we see each sales tax component for each location and filing period.
